Empowering Communities through Care, Education and Needed Supplies
Summit Health Cares is focused on improving the health of our communities – whether through our signature Food, Health, Hope: An Answer to Diabetes (FHH) program or by engaging Summit Health doctors and nurses at wellness screenings in the community. SHC believes in the importance of empowering communities to help transform their lives. By removing barriers to care and providing access to health screenings and education in underserved communities around us, we’re able to help participants become aware of any medical conditions they have and understand how to properly treat them (e.g., through healthy foods, active routines).
Another critical program to help empower our community is our Fresh Start Initiative, which provides period products, diapers and baby hygiene products to families who need them. Distributed in conjunction with our food pantry partners, these free products help reduce the anxiety for families who are struggling to pay the bills, but shouldn’t have to go without basic supplies – because everyone deserves a fresh start each day.
In addition, SHC engages the Summit Health staff in multiple community drives throughout the year to help support our partners. These charitable initiatives include back-to-school backpack drives in the summer, as well as coat and toy drives in the winter. It’s one of the ways SHC gives back.
