In Touch With Your Future
“Students are exposed to a variety of different careers through the Healthcare Professional For A Day program, but the beauty is the tremendous hands-on component. We don’t have the ability in the classroom to do the EKG or use needles for injections or stitch bananas. These are all hands-on activities that really pique students’ interest in the different types of medical careers. Having medical experts come in brings a tremendous amount of expertise and knowledge so that students can bounce ideas and questions off of them. Having that tremendous depth of knowledge is so important for the kids and it’s something you can’t get in your typical classroom. Some of the students come back extremely enthused by this day, thinking about how to pursue a medical career. We’ve probably had 100 kids come through this program in the last five years and I have a list of about 25 of those who are actively pursuing medical school or pharmacy or biomedical engineering or biology.”
