Cancer doesn’t fight fair. Not only does it cause incredible physical and emotional burdens for the patients undergoing treatment and their families, but it also causes a financial strain. The Foundation established the “Patient in Need” fund in 2018, to provide one-time grants to help patients and families with critical, non-medical expenses, easing anxiety and allowing them to focus on what’s most important – getting healthy. Many have already benefited from the fund, including Mr. Stephens, who was recently treated for head and neck cancer. “The grant represented to me a group of people who didn’t even know me, yet this group of people cared for me as a person,” explained Mr. Stephens. “It showed me that clearly, I was not in this situation by myself and that I was not alone in trying to get well.”
