Summit Health Cares is hosting its first annual Summit Challenge, June 5 at The Park in Berkeley Heights. This fun event will help raise funds for Summit Health Cares’ Cancer Comfort Project. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a beginner, all are invited to join in on the fun and help raise funds for Summit Health Cares’ Cancer Comfort Project.  The Comfort Project offers multiple resources, from one-on-one patient navigation services helping access community resources to movement and mindfulness classes, therapeutic music and more – everything is aimed at providing comfort and easing stress and anxiety for patients and their families fighting cancer.

SHC and the City of Plainfield have joined forces to host a free Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 23 at City Hall (515 Watchung Avenue, Plainfield) from 11 am to 3 pm. The free Health & Wellness Fair will offer COVID-19 vaccines, access to health screenings, diaper & menstrual hygiene products, colorectal cancer education and colorectal screenings, supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP), free sunscreen, and more!

Summit Health Cares (SHC) is excited to announce the availability of two scholarships for students who are passionate about helping others and are pursuing a career in health care. Applications are now available for the 2022 Next Generation Scholarship and the Dr. Marcia Sherman Scholarship – programs designed to ease the financial burden for tomorrow’s health care leaders.  Applications are due June 30, 2022. To learn more, visit www.sh-cares.org/our-impact/give-back/scholarships/.

For the past five years, SHC has filled backpacks with donated supplies, distributing them to local children in need at the start of each school year. Working together with the Boys & Girls Clubs and local food banks, the backpacks include essential items like pens and pencils, notebooks, folders and glue sticks. But this year, more than 100 of those backpacks will include an exciting surprise – a laptop! The gently used laptops, donated by Summit Health, were collected and securely wiped by Liquid Technology.

Summit Health announced Monday that Summit Medical Group Foundation and CityMD Cares have merged to form Summit Health Cares, an organization that, like its predecessors, is designed to improve access to healthcare for underserved communities.

Former Summit Medical Group Foundation unveils new name

Under its new name, Summit Health Cares, the former Summit Medical Group Foundation will expand its geographic reach to include the greater New York metropolitan area and Central Oregon, in the surrounding areas where it provides health care.
