Training for a marathon is no small feat. But runners who are part of Team SHC not only have the support of fellow teammates, making training more bearable, but they also have the satisfaction of knowing that each mile they run helps raise funds for SHC’s community programming. In short, they’re turning their love of running into powerful support to help the underserved in the communities they live and work in.

In 2026, 17 runners participated in several iconic races for Team SHC:
- United Airlines NYC Half Marathon: 11 runners
- Bank of America Boston Marathon (130th Anniversary): 2 runners
- RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon: 4 runners
While completing these races is a victory in itself, each member of Team SHC works to fundraise for the foundation. Together, these amazing athletes have raised more than $60,000 to support the foundation’s vital programs. “I’m impressed by the work the foundation does around cancer care, especially with the AKTIV Center,” expressed Daniel Sanchez, who runs with Team SHC and is on an Abbott World Marathon Majors journey – a quest to complete all six elite marathons. Sanchez understands that there are many families out there who “do not have insurance or don’t have someone who can help advocate for them.” And that’s why he feels passionate about raising funds for SHC.
Team SHC is not done yet! Participants will lace up for two more races this year:
- BMW Berlin Marathon on September 27 (one spot available for this race)
- TCS NYC Marathon on November 1 (Team SHC is full for this race, but accepting waitlist applications)
Rick Monaco, a Team SHC runner who participated in last year’s NYC Marathon, this year’s Boston Marathon, and is training for the upcoming Berlin race, has been instrumental in the team’s fundraising efforts. He said, “Team SHC gave my journey a purpose beyond myself – knowing that the foundation benefits from every step I take makes the hard days worth it.”
